Dr. Polly Suk-Yee Cheung

Dr Cheung graduated from the University of Hong Kong and received specialty training in Breast & Endocrine Surgery at the University of Michigan.
During her years of service in public hospital, she initiated breast conserving surgery and breast reconstruction; and set up the first breast-screening program in Hong Kong.
After entering into private practice, Dr Cheung set up the first Breast Care Centre in private hospital, introducing stereotactic breast biopsy, and started organized breast screening program with quality assurance and auditing.
In 2003, she formed a Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Team in private, which holds weekly conference providing multimodality treatment plan for breast cancer patients.
In 2005, she founded the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to breast cancer education, patient support, research and advocacy.
In 2007, she established the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Registry – a territory-wide comprehensive local breast cancer data collection system, providing data for research and analysis for better breast cancer prevention and care.
In 2011, she set up a community-based Breast Health Centre, providing mammogram screening at reduced fee or free of charge to middle and low income women in Hong Kong.
In 2014, she led the launch of “Breast Cancer HK Online” a web-based interactive platform of Hong Kong Breast Cancer Registry, which aims to assist medical professionals in their clinical assessments and decisions through access to information on local disease development and treatment trends.
Dr Cheung is also involved in academic exchange and training of young doctors and medical students. She is Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Hong Kong, accredited trainer for The College of Surgeon of Hong Kong for young breast surgeons, Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, President of Breast Surgery International 2011-2013, and currently serves as President of the Hong Kong Society of Breast Surgeons.
