Dr. Polly Suk-Yee Cheung
M.B., B.S. (HK), F.R.C.S. (Glasg), F.R.A.C.S., F.C.S.H.K., F.H.K.A.M. (Surg)

Dr. Polly Cheung completed her surgical training at the University of Hong Kong, and then received training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Michigan.

During her years as an Academic Surgeon at Queen Mary Hospital and as a Consultant Surgeon at Kwong Wah Hospital, Dr. Cheung has accomplished many achievements – incorporating needle biopsy and breast ultrasound procedures into the breast service, as well as promoting breast-conserving surgery and breast reconstruction. In 1990 she set up the first breast-screening programme in Hong Kong that offered mammography at Kwong Wah Hospital. After entering into private practice, Dr. Cheung set up the first Breast Care Centre in private at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, introducing a new stereotactic breast biopsy system and a one-stop breast cancer service from screening to diagnosis and treatment.

Apart from her private practice at the Breast and Endocrine Surgery Centre in Central, Dr. Cheung is Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Hong Kong, Honorary Director of Breast Care Centre at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, and surgical trainer for the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. Dr. Cheung is keen on sharing her knowledge and experience in this area to fellow doctors, medical students and members of the public. Being active in overseas conferences and exchanges, Dr. Cheung has been serving on the Council of the Breast Surgery International since 1999.

In 1999, Dr. Cheung received the Outstanding Professional Women Award from the Hong Kong Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs Association for her professional dedication and contribution. In 2003, she was nominated as one of the ten most successful women in Hong Kong by a local magazine.

1983: Introduced breast reconstruction surgery to Hong Kong
1987: Introduced breast conserving cancer surgery to Hong Kong
1990: Introduced the first breast screening programme at Kwong Wah Hospital
1999: Set up Breast Care Centre at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital
Serving as Council Member for the Breast Surgery International
2003: Set up weekly multidisciplinary conference involving local breast cancer experts
2005: Founded the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation
2007: Set up the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Registry.
2009: President Elect of the Breast Surgery International
2011: President of the Breast Surgery International
