Subsidized Breast Cancer Screening Programme for Community Women
Breast Cancer is the No. 1 cancer among women in Hong Kong. According to the Hong Kong Cancer Registry, Hospital Authority, cases have continued to rise, with 5,585 new invasive breast cancer cases recorded in 2023 - representing a nearly fivefold increase over the past thirty years.
While most women recognise the importance of screening, only 20% undergo regular check-ups. Participation rates are significantly lower among grassroots and less-educated groups, who often face financial barriers and a lack of information. These obstacles prevent vulnerable women from seeking early screening, causing them to miss the valuable opportunity for early detection and treatment.
In response, we have launched the " Subsidized Breast Cancer Screening Programme for Community Women" by providing free or subsidized screening services to underprivileged women. We aim to encourage women to have a regular breast health examination and improve early detection rates across the community.
Eligible applicants of the ‘Subsidized Breast Cancer Screening Programme for Community Women’ will be entitled to the following services for free or at a 50% subsidy upon approval:
1. Breast Self-Examination tutorial by healthcare professionals
2. Clinical Breast Examination conducted by registered nurses/ doctors
3. 2D Mammogram to detect breast cancer early
